Tip

Key Findings/Outcomes

  1. What are the target groups, types of outreach, materials to be used, budget and relevance to industry were the topics discussedIt is easier to focus on fairs, university and high school students to start with the outreach programme.

  2. We should prepare easy materials such as Youtube videos or simple slides/flyers for anyone in the action to be able to outreach with minimum effort.

  3. The more outreach enthusiastic ON-DEM members could come together and plan creating more detailed applications, interactive things, etc.

  4. It is easier to focus on fairs, university and high school students to start with the outreach programme.

  5. Some Tusail students attended to local events (science fairs and etc.), which could be something we can encourage to ON-DEM members as well.

  6. Some Tusail members (2 ppl) also attended EU funded science fairsfair, and they also got additional funding from EU to attend this event, this could be a good way of learning about what others are doing and putting ourselves out there, without dipping into ON-DEM budget.

Focus for next period

  1. Picking some of the ideas and developing them further for the upcoming funding year.

  2. Further meetings required with the enthusiastic partiesOrganize informal meetings for interested parties to brainstorm potential outreach activities related to their work.

  3. Develop 2-3 initial outreach activities focused on easier target groups like schools, universities and festivals to get feedback, (some of these could be easy access materials such as Youtube videos).

  4. Make sure sessions on topics related to the works of WGs 5&6 are not planned parallel to the scientific sessions in order to improve science communication, dissemination and valorization.

Note

Input needed from others

  1. All action members should be somehow aware of outreach activities and participate as much as they can since this is the only way to make our work visible to others.

General Summary

The meeting focused on outreach strategies for ON-DEM. Key targets include industries (mid-level managers, R&D departments; companies that don’t know they need DEM), schools (nurseries to high schools), universities, festivals, and community groups. Challenges include understanding capabilities of members and different education systems within EU. Festivals, universities and high schools are seen as easier targets. The discussion emphasized creating a pool of activities (especially some easier to be used by anyone), leveraging EU funding, and using social media and LinkedIn for outreach. ON-DEM outreach survey revealed 21 interested participants, with a preference for working with pupils and adults. The need for clear outreach definitions and practical guidelines was highlighted, along with the importance of industry engagement and public visibility. Finally creating a floating ideas list to be shared and emphasized within the network to find interested parties.
