Brief Summary

During the ON-DEM Inaugural Conference, a working group discussion was held which began with a presentation by Jan-Willem Bisschop on the MercuryCloud web environment, which allows industry to use MercuryDPM through a user-friendly web interface on Amazon Web Services. In the future this platform could potentially be extended to incorporate other open-source codes, especially if they adopt a common file format.

After the presentation, Rakulan Sivanesapillai from Bayer engaged with the academic members in an extensive discussion centred on two main topics:

  • The advantages and disadvantages of industry using open-source versus closed-source codes.

  • Case studies for industry validation.

In the afternoon, the meeting addressed several topics:

  • Establishing industrial focus groups, with the first group hoped to be part of CHoPS.

  • Creating targeted advertisements to encourage greater industrial involvement in the network and with open-source particle simulations.

    • Discussed ideas for a catchy slogan.
