D1.1

Short list of academic reference problems (including their full definition in terms of initial configuration, boundary condition, time step, expected results, and/or analytical solutions, etc.). The first list relates to problems that may be tackled by considering various hardware architectures, the second one to model-based challenges. Lists will be compiled as part of a short technical report and made available via the wiki and repositories.

D1.2

Implementation of hardware- and model-based short-list problems using at least two open-source DEM codes to give a comprehensive comparison of the different investigated solutions. Two individual problems will be considered each year (i.e. one hardware-based, another one model-based) and summarised in individual technical reports (M12, M24, M36 and M48). These will also be made available as individual datasets fully documented and shared via repositories.

D1.3

Two journal papers considering the conclusions and findings related to (i) hardware-based solutions and (ii) model-based solutions, respectively.

D2.1

Technical report including (i) short list of model materials with typical and academical physical properties (quasi- perfect spherical powders, polyhedral shapes, cohesiveness, etc.), and (ii) an inventory oy experimental equipment accessible by the Action.

D2.2

Three journal papers, each considering at least one shortlisted problem that has been modelled both experimentally and numerically for validation/benchmarking purposes. Each of these outputs will be complemented by a well-documented database for proposing different modelling strategies and developing calibration procedures on different DEM codes.

D3.1

List of numerical data required for inclusion in common open DEM file format (technical report).

D3.2

Open DEM file format specifications and guidelines to provide new data from new contact models and procedures that is compliant with the file format.

D3.3

Implementation of open file format (technical report).

D3.4

Open-source plug-ins/tools for post-processing and visualisation of DEM data using the open DEM file format published at relevant repository (e.g. GitHub)

D4.1

Short list of:

  • features to monitor in reference benchmarks

  • physical phenomena to consider in contact models and particle shape representation

  • case studies for domain generation algorithms and calibration procedures (technical report).

D4.2

Assessment of case-studies. Results to be presented in at least three journal papers (e.g. (i) particle shape, (ii) domain generation and (iii) calibration procedures).

D4.3

Handbook of normalisation and best practice for DEM simulations. This deliverable will be in the form of an edited book, using Creative Commons licensing and ideally published by Open Research Europe (ORE).

D5.1

Annual report of industrially relevant activities, including meetings, discussions, other activities as well as the conclusions and actions derived from these.

D5.2

White paper identifying barriers to commercial utilisation of DEM code and assessment of user difficulties

D5.3

Tools to improve commercial utilisation of DEM codes, such as cloud deployment examples and guided user interfaces which are fully documented and published in a repository

D6.1

Science Communication Plan to include communication, dissemination and valorisation strategy, as well as a plan to implement this strategy.

Complete

D6.2

Action website, wiki-website and data- and software-related repositories prepared. This deliverable includes guidelines for contributions towards the repositories, databases and websites related to the Action.

D6.6

Proceedings of Closing Conference including final reports from each of the Working Groups.

D6.7

Compilation of content developed for all training schools and workshops to be made freely available.

D6.8

Production of handbook of best practices resulting from development across different Working Groups.
