Postdoctoral position opportunity – Discrete Element Modelling of Slow-Moving Landslides

A new postdoctoral position is open at the Centre de Recherches Pétrographiques et Géochimiques (CRPG, Nancy, France), as part of the ANR-funded SLIDE project “Assessing the contribution of slow-moving landslides to erosion in the Himalayas”.

The successful candidate will develop discrete element models using YADE to investigate the response of slow-moving landslides to hydrological forcing, contributing to a better understanding of their role in mountain erosion and landscape evolution.

Main details:

  • Duration: up to 18 months, starting January 2026 (flexible)

  • Location: Nancy / Clermont-Ferrand, France

  • Supervisors: Dr. Luc Scholtès (Université Clermont Auvergne) and Dr. Jérôme Lavé (Université de Lorraine – CRPG)

Post-doctoral position in granular physics

The School of Civil Engineering at the University of Sydney is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join Associate Professor Pierre Rognon’s research team, focusing on the mechanics of granular materials.

The research project aims at reducing energy use while excavating granular materials. It will involve laboratory experiments with a programable robotic arm, X-ray imaging and/or simulations to find out the trajectories of the ground engaging tool that minimise energy dissipation.
