  • Address: 10 Max Born Crescent, The University of Edinburgh, King’s Buildings, Edinburgh EH9 3BF

  • what3words: best.mental.much (very appropriate!)

Tea, coffee and refreshments will be available on arrival at the ON-DEM/TUSAIL Joint Event (from around 09:45). These will be replenished during the day.

Accommodation

Edinburgh has an abundant supply of accommodation across all categories. However, it is also a popular tourist destination and therefore the demand for accommodation is high.

The organisers of CHoPS 2024 have shortlisted some of the reasonably priced accommodation options within the city centrehttps://www.chops2024.ed.ac.uk/accommodation.html

Social Programme

A pub crawl with an ON-DEM twist! You will be guided around Edinburgh city centre with several carefully chosen pubs and locations as route markers. As you walk we hope to tell you a bit about Edinburgh’s history, some its characters and legends. As we test your general (and ON-DEM) knowledge you may collect your very own unique set of ON-DEM beads and accumulate points to get some rewards as the evening progresses.

Whether beer, whisky or juice is your favourite drink, there is plenty of choice along the way. If you feel hungry, we can always recommend some of the local delicacies that include deep-fried Mars bars, chips and sauce, or one of the many more critically acclaimed versions of that famous creature referred to as “the haggis”.

The planned itinerary is here: ON-DEM Pub Crawl - Google My Maps. You are welcome to join at any point/time

Transport Information

  • Arriving by plane? There are regular buses (AirLink No. 100) just outside the terminal taking you from/to the city centre. Waverley and Haymarket are the main railway stations and from both you should be able to get to most hotels either by walk or an additional bus. The tram service is also a good option, but keep in mind that it only runs between around 05:20 and 23:00.

  • Bus journeys can be paid by contactless payment directly with the driver. The best fare is calculated automatically depending on the number of trips you make. Just use the same card all the time. A single fare costs £2.00 while day tickets offering unlimited journeys are capped at £4.80. You can also pay with cash (note: no change is given except on airport buses so have the exact fare!), in which case single/day tickets cost £2/£5.

  • Taxis are readily available. The two licensed taxi companies in Edinburgh are Central Taxis and City Cabs. Bolt also works well in Edinburgh.

  • Google Maps and other mobile phone applications are usually accurate and using the local app (by Lothian buses) may also be helpful (Bus & Tram App - Lothian Buses ).

  • To get from the city centre to Murchison House, the number 9 bus is the most convenient option because it terminates at King’s Buildings. From the final stop, it is only a 1-minute walk to Murchison House.
